About that whole "First Amendment" thing...

Today, the House passed bill S 193, which was legislation which raised the fines for "indecent" material on broadcast television from $32,500 to $325,000.

Is Congress psychotic? Do they realize exactly what it is that they are doing?

This is not what our government is for. The government is not our mother. It's not there to cover our ears when a naughty word is said. It's not there to cover our eyes when a naughty image is shown. Why do we have a government?

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.


That's why the government was made. The only thing in there that could possibly be construed as being even quasi-related to "television indecency" would be the line about promoting "the general Welfare." Welfare means well-being. Promotion of well-being has nothing to do with keeping TV networks from allowing a nipple to be shown.

So, Congress, next time you vote on something, make sure you read the Constitution beforehand. Idiots.

People who really need mothers right now are not those of us who want to watch "Law & Order" without its self-censorship (Like gang members who never drop an F-bomb...I'm sorry but that just takes me out of the show). They are the members of Congress. They need mean, angry mothers there to put them in time-out and make them do their homework (i.e. read the Constitution).
